Dopamine’s effects on moods, energy, motivation/drive and focus!

">

Our brains are such wonderful pharmacies!

The brain can make a ton of feel good nerve signal proteins (neurotransmitters)!

But that perfect ‘feel good’ effect functions on a very tight balance.

Tip it to the good a bit too much and you can feel pretty crappy right after a rush of ‘feeling good’. So what do you do to keep an even keel? First, get off the roller coaster of ups and downs that keeps you on a relentless pursuit of pleasure; a hypothetical ‘fast’ depending on whatever your dopamine drug of choice is (fast sugary, high carb foods, electronics and social media, gaming, partying, recreational drugs, etc) .

I highly recommend you list to the podcast linked below or read the book Dopamine Nation to understand why as a society we have got it all wrong in trying to avoid pain while on a constant and voracious seeking of pleasure. Madly running after whatever may give us that dopamine high in the short term (even if it’s got long term consequences).

Swings in dopamine may be the cause of your depression, lack of motivation, lack of focus and drive.

Have a listen/read. You won’t be disappointed: Youtube or Spotify. Or read her book.
